We are proud to announce that the Foundation for Sustainable Energy (FNEZ) has won a tender from the General Directorate for Environmental Protection (GDOŚ) to develop guidelines for environmental impact assessments, analyses, and monitoring for offshore wind farms (OWFs). The project is funded by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

The guidelines aim to standardize and harmonize the approach to environmental assessments, improving their quality and efficiency. The document focuses on:

• Ensuring compliance with legal regulations and objectivity in assessments,
• Optimizing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports, reducing their volume, and simplifying communication,
• Standardizing assessment methodologies, mitigation measures, and monitoring processes,
• Rationalizing inventory and environmental monitoring processes based on scientific data and prior experiences,
• Minimizing project risks by better aligning environmental decisions with investment realities.

The project includes developing best practices for:

• Environmental studies and preparing EIA reports,
• Post-implementation analyses and research methodologies,
• Mitigation measures and environmental monitoring,
• Preparing accurate descriptions of OWF construction and operation for EIA purposes.

A team of experts from leading institutions and companies is involved in the project, including EKO-KONSULT, ASEOffshore, the University of Gdańsk, PROJMORS, Tribio, and Przyrodnicy24.

The work on the document proceeded according to schedule. The final version was completed on time, with its assumptions regularly consulted with stakeholders by FNEZ and GDOŚ as part of the Offshore Best Practices Center (OBPC) project.
